'Red Velvet' - Asiatic Hybrid Lily Bulb
Lily Bulb Description
Flower Description: One of the earliest (1964) of the Stone & Payne Hybrids out of Piedmont, Connecticut, 'Red Velvet' is a Triploid lily and as such, is tough as nails. These brick red, semi-pendant flowers drive the hummingbirds wild when in bloom. Seems they just can't get enough. 3 to 4 Feet. Late June / Early July Flowering, Unscented.
Many years ago, before Internet and Email, Alan Lacy, then with the NY Times, paid our production field a visit and did a feature story on 'Red Velvet' and how much he enjoyed viewing it through his breakfast nook window each morning. Several days after publication of his article, our postman showed up with a 7 1/2 pound bundle of mail all requesting catalogs. Needless to say, it took a few years to catch up with the demand.
Bulb Size - Our standard for bulbs of this lily cultivar ranges from Premium-size (14/16 cm) to Exhibition-size (over 20 cm). Click here for details.
