'Sumatra' - Oriental Hybrid Lily
Lily Bulb Description
Flower Description. The flowers produced by this Oriental Hybrid Lily bulb are the darkest red we offer, though 'Rio Negro' runs a very close second. 'Sumatra' has only been offered as a cut flower in quality floral shops for the last couple of years, but now you can grow your own. Not for shady areas, 'Sumatra' needs a sunny site for sturdy stems and the most intense color. And when you see 'Sumatra' on one of those home shopping shows and they tell you "we have this as an exclusive", don't believe them. B & D Lilies introduced 'Sumatra' to the garden trade in the spring of 2005 at the Northwest Flower & Garden Show in Seattle. These flowers are large and heavy and if grown in light afternoon shade in the hot areas of the US, you may need to supply some support. 3 to 4 feet. Late July to Mid-August Bloom depending on how cold spring is.
