'Curley Sue' - Oriental Hybrid Lily Bulb
Lily Bulb Description
Flower Description: ‘Curley Sue’ is one of those “No Bull” lilies and is certainly one of a kind. Shown here with ‘Mo’, this lily was the recipient of the '2014 Pick of the Herd Award' while going through garden trials. The handsome fella with big brown eyes has lived the Life of Riley, spending his time eating and sleeping in the shade under a tree. Like the legendary ‘Ferdinand’, he is always ready to take out time to smell the flowers and with a creature as big as 'Mo' if he says a lily is good, who are we to argue? Standing shoulder high to a full grown bull, ‘Curley Sue’ will command nothing but attention in your garden.
We have been watching this hybrid of master breeder Johan Mak of Oregon for years. These flowers measure upwards of 8 inches or more across. Photo inset of Bob’s hand next to a bud will help you to visualize their size.
‘Curley Sue’ is a July bloomer in our garden and easily tops 4 feet once settled in. So why not moooove some plants out of the way to make room for this 'Baron of Beef' of the lily world in your garden.
SIDE NOTE: After pronouncing 'Curley Sue' worthy, 'Mo' did eat this beautiful stem right down to the pot it was growing in.
