Flower Description: It is said that the Italians lust for the classic red Ferrariª ranks a distant 2nd to their admiration of the 'Bella Donna'. Meaning 'Beautiful Lady', 'Belladonna' is more intense in color than 'Novatore' and this rich, almost golden-yellow introduction has been a real attention grabber. Far superior to 'Golden Stargazer' which we discarded following garden trials years ago after a wind storm that did not hurt any of our other lilies completely striped them of all petals. 'Belladonna has huge bowl-shaped flowers, great rich color, and soft, wafting fragrance all in one "beautiful lady". 4 Feet. July to August Blooming. Lovely Fragrance.
The small inset photo is of a single mother bulb planted 4 years earlier and her offsets under a 15+ yr. old Rose of Sharon (Hibiscus syriacus). Though being extremely crowded now by the Rose of Sharon, 'Belladonna' has dug in her heals to hold her ground and is doing just fine.
Photo inset is of “average” stem of 'Belladonna' taken on June 3, 2012. Judging from stem size compared to a quarter and based on experience, we expect these bulbs to easily exceed 24 cms in circumference with most ranging close to 30 cms in circumference. This particular bed is made up of 5 year old bulbs from scales and many will be producing a double nose and divide in their next season.
As Mother Nature can be a bit fickle, especially here in NW Washington, should any of our listed Private Harvest™ varieties not make expected size, we will contact you for options before shipping.
